This high contrast charcoal drawing on dark paper was created using chalk and carbon pencils, from a reference photo taken by my dad in a darkroom in Vietnam, 1971. This piece was done for my dad, who has always been my number one supporter in my artwork, and serves as a tribute to his dear friend.
My dad's dedication to Roger "Schmeet":
"Jan 29, 1948 - Dec 2, 2014. Bronze Star recipient. My Brother in Battle, My Comrade at Arms, My Competition in the Imbuement of Fermented Malt Beverages, My Cohort in the Perpetration of Devilment, My Close Friend for Over 45 Years. Killed By Agent Orange Dioxin Exposure Dec 2, 2014."
This drawing is more than just a portrait—it's a memorial to friendship, sacrifice, and the bonds forged in the most difficult of circumstances. It honors a life well-lived and a friendship that endured long after the war ended.
